Fatal Encounters

The data on this website is from Fatal Encounters, a project to track all instances in the United States where people died during interactions with police. This is a work in progress, an effort to collect information about officer-involved deaths going back to January 1, 2000.

The database currently contains over 14,500 incidents between January 1, 2000, and today's date. The years 2013, 2014 and 2015 are complete, while cases from earlier years continue to be added. FE also has 30 completed states going back to 2000, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wyoming with more being finished monthly. The whole country should be finished by December 2016. Please see here how you can support this project. Special thanks to Caspar Egas and Silk.co for setting up this page.
